What Time Can't Touch — Nice, France

Nice, France

Time always flies when you are having fun, but when you realize you're left with just a few weeks in a long and incredible journey, each day becomes that much more special. I knew when I came to Europe that it would be impossible to see everything I wanted, there just isn't enough time to warrant such a feet. Nonetheless, it becomes increasingly difficult deciding where to spend your time when there is little left.

Italy was the most recent country knocked off my list. I completed a pretty broad circuit, but still left a number of key sights untouched. Starting in Venice, I worked my way south through Tuscany, then on through Rome and as far south as Naples. My diet drastically improved as I made frequent visits to the abundant pizza and pasta places, the cuisine you have to take advantage of in Italy. But then again I downed a fair share of gelato as well, so I wouldn't go as far as saying I was healthy. One of the dining highlights was at the world famous pizzeria Da'Michele in Naples, well known partly because of the clip it hosted in "Eat, Pray, Love" a movie with Julia Roberts.

In places like Rome and Florence, it was incredible to walk along the sights that everyone basically learns about since first grade. My casual afternoon stroll through the park just happened to be next to thousand year old Roman ruins. I saw the iconic statue of David, visited the Colosseum, Pantheon and Sistine Chapel among other sights. Just like I emphasized in Germany: when you are present in these historical sights everything is just so much more interesting and you really are attracted to the information available to you. Saying it is an educational experience almost seems to downplay the significance. An education is what you get in school, out here in the real world I feel like enlightening experience is a better pairing of words.

While I don't like to think about the countdown until my flight home, it is inevitably on the horizon. I seem to naturally put a little more pressure on myself to make maximum use of the time at hand. But in the middle of this fake stress, I just take a deep breath and put in perspective my first world problems: if I end up in Barcelona tomorrow or Paris, the world moves on. And either option is absolutely stellar.
