Soaking our way to Mexico! — Madrid, NM

Madrid, NM

11/15/12

OJO Caliente, NM 10/22-24/12

A few announcements before we get into the meat of our latest adventure!!
When we were in Jackson having all of our back trouble, my friend GYPSY, an AMAZING healer and Rolfer came to our aid. Her treatments for both Jim and I were so fantastic and healed us on so many levels I can't even begin to thank her. If you are ever in Jackson and need some body work, she is the "go to girl" for help. If you do want a session, email me and I will give you her email and phone number.

WE MADE IT TO MEXICO!! We entered at Tecate and drove down the entire Baja peninsula to Cerritos Beach, south of Pescadero. We are having the best time and I will fill you in on all of our Mexico adventure in the next entry. If you feel you are not hearing from us in a timely manner, it is due to the lack of internet on our journey. Don't worry. We are safe and have not felt the least bit unsafe the whole time. The people could not be nicer or more helpful. SO far so GOOD!! Vivir mejor! I am trying to impress you with my Espanol. I think it means, live better! Not sure but we kept seeing it on the road signs all the way down and I liked it! Any Spanish speakers out there, please feel free to give me the exact translation.

So on our drive east to New Mexico we decided to stop at some hot springs in Ojo Caliente, NM. Apparently it use to be a little kind of hippie place with one pool and that's about it. Due to a fire 4 yrs.ago, the place was purchased by the Scott Family who completely renovated the resort and added additional sleeping accommodations and a very good restaurant. There are now 7 pools!
Each one is specific in it's mineral content and potential health benefits. There was a mud pool where you applied red mud all over your body, let it dry and then rinse off!! I loved that pool. After soaking in the really HOT pool of 107 degrees you could cool off in the large swimming pool at 92 degrees.

And to make it even better for us they had gorgeous campgrounds. We found our spot, pitched the tent and began our 3 days of soaking, enjoying the cuisine, bicycling, and just overall being slugs and relaxing. I think I must have been a slug or a sloth in another life. This slow moving pace really appeals to me at this time. If you ever are in the area I highly recommend Ojo Caliente Hot Springs. And don't forget to get the Milagro Wrap! You get real hot in the pools and then they wrap you up like a burrito in cotton and wool blankets (mummified or swaddled like an infant!) turn off the lights and let you detoxify for 25 minutes in the pitch dark. Since you can't move all of your control issues come up and either you surrender and trust or you squirm until you can break free. Fortunately I resisted the squirming option and enjoyed the detox.
It was pretty cool. They also have private pools with fireplaces which is very romantic.

After the springs we headed to Madrid, Santa Fe to visit with Mike, Joyce and Maya whom you met in another entry about Yellowstone! Mike and Jim were roommates in college. They have a great house on the outskirts of this funky little artsy town, population 204 ish. Fun art galleries, shops and good restaurants can be found, along with a super Halloween parade, costume contest and first annual Garlic Festival at the Community Garden. We mostly enjoyed Mike and Joyce's wonderful cooking and company. Mike is an artist who does really cool eclectic sculptures made of metal car parts and other assorted pieces. We were there to help him install one of his pieces for some clients in a ritzy area. Pictures of "Mex", a very tall cowboy are in this blog, along with Mex's girlfriend, Cowgirl Red!! We also got to attend an art opening in Santa Fe, where two of his smaller pieces were on display. We wish him a successful and prosperous art journey!!

Joyce is a Ho Shin practitioner. She uses bee stings to help people heal. AMAZING stuff. She has a thriving practice and there are only 2 certified practitioners in the United States. Her clients love her and so do we. She is a beautiful woman inside and out.

While we were there we got to attend a "Couples Workshop" presented by a visiting couple from San Francisco at their Church. It was so GOOD. Jim described it as "deeply profound". He loved the part about self responsibility. Take care of your side of the street, speak kindly and lovingly and always remember you are relating with your best friend. Give respect, care and love at all times. I especially enjoyed listening to the answers to the questions that were asked by different couples. The loving energy in the responses and the acceptance and non-judgment of both parties, along with seeking respectful solutions that are win-win for the families. It truly touched my heart to be in the same room as all these couples who REALLY want the highest and best for their partners and themselves. I hope it changed me so deeply and profoundly that when I look at Jim, I can see the true gift he is to my life!!

Traveling can be challenging and there are times when I am NOT seeing him as the real gift he is. Bless God! I am learning to keep my mouth shut until the storm passes and then I can have a meaningful conversation about whatever is troubling me. Usually it's just a misperception in my sometimes petty judgmental mind and I clean it up before he even knows about it. Thank God for forgiveness and patience!! A mistake can be corrected and need not be punishable by death. My ego begs to differ with me on that point but I am not having that conversation with my ego anymore. I want to love and be loving with all! And I thank God I have a partner to practice loving kindness with!!

It was a huge blessing to stay with Mike, Joyce and Maya and meet their friends from Church, their friends in town and just be with them and stay in their cute cabin at the top of the hill. Thanks so much you guys. We had a blast being with you and your casita in Cerritos is darling and looks fine. You really picked a good spot!!

As we leave Madrid and head south and west to Mexico, we decide to hit a few more hot springs. The Riverbend Hot Springs were right on the Rio Grande River in Truth or Consequences, NM. Wonderful place with beautiful lighting at night. The pools overlooked the river and there was a darling neighbor cat who cried until you dosed her with love and attention. I loved hearing her purr on my lap while I waited for the next human to come along and give her some loving! We all took turns so it was not a burden. It was a joy. We rode our bikes through this sleepy little town and enjoyed ourselves immensely. After that soak we found out about "Essence of Tranquility Hot Springs" a few miles south of Safford, AZ. Cool and funky little place with 5 private pools that were all deep and hot!! Each one had it's own theme so to speak. There was a "Budda"pool, "Grecian" pool, a heart shaped pool and two big waterfall pools! They also had a community kitchen. The accommodation we slept in was a renovated "bully barn". In case you don't know what a bully barn is, it's a storage shed!! It was so creative on their part to provide rooms that were large storage sheds!! We met a really nice couple, Larry and Karen, who had been coming to these hot springs for 15 years. Charles worked there and was this really genuine and sweet man who looked 50 but was really 70. He was a great representative for the springs and made you feel right at home.

See you soon in sunny Mexico ! Hasta luego amigos and amigas.
