The last part of deepest darkest Peru — Puno, Peru

Puno, Peru

Where I stayed
Hotel Italia Puno

Thursday 18th October - we visited the floating Islands on lake Titikaka, while we were there they explained how they make the Islands, how they earn a living which is mainly tourism and fishing. One small island even has its own medical centre on it which serves all the islands around it.
We then visited another island on Lake Titikaka where we ate the most amazing trout, very fresh and cooked amazingly. We then had a small trek to the main plaza of this very small island.
After this it was back to the boat to arrive at the homestay, this was an amazing experience.
We stayed with a local family for the night. I´m sure some of you have already seen the delightful picture my darling brother has added to facebook.
We dressed up in traditional clothes and the families taught us to dance. We then went with our new "Mama´s and papa´s" back to the house to eat with the family. Our family consisted of mama and papa and three young children. At around 8.30pm they sent us to bed as we were going to have an early morning.

Friday 19th October - as they had suggested the two young girls came knocking at our door at 7am asking us to join the family for breakfast. After eating breakfast it was off to work on the farm, we were herding sheep and feeding the pigs. Then we helped our new "mama" peel potatoes and played with the young children.
Then the Old "papa" from next tour took us both and two other girls we are with on a short trek to a viewpoint, apart from possibly being in his seventies or eighties or "papa" took us with his walking stick up to the viewpoint, the crazy guy.
After lunch it was back to the boat and back to Puno.
As it was our last night with our amazing tour guide we all went out for a meal and some drinks.
We ended up in a spanish kareoke bar and drank lots of rum and coke.

Saturday 20th October - We had the pleasure of starting our bus trip at 7am which was not great with hangovers.
After crossing the border, a dodgy boat ride and a ten hour bus ride we arrived in Bolivia.
We were all very very tired so after a quick meal out we were in bed by 10pm.
This was not a great day for us, but it´s all part and parcel and i´m sure we will look back and smile at the winding Bolivian roads.

Sunday 21st October - after a much needed lie in we started a City Tour at 9am which was interesting to see all the different sites in La Paz.
The witch´s market was especially weird with baby Lama foetus hanging from market stalls.
Thankfully we saw the moon valley and the massive football stadium so this helped with our distress from the market.
After the tour we went for a much needed traditional sausage and mash in an english pub (we are missing english food by now) and then spent the afternoon relaxing.
Not sure what tonight entails but we are off to the Salt flats tomorrow so we will update when we are back.

Hope all is well at home

Lots of love xxxx
